Morgan Page Interview & Contest

I had the opportunity to chat with Morgan Page recently during The Longest Road Tour (you can see photos here). With 2 billboard top 10 chart toppers this year plus a number 24 spot for top electronic music video of the year from InternetDJ.com, Morgan Page really doesn't need an introduction. He's just recently finished a Tour with Delerium across the US and Canada and you can catch him in a city near you as he headlines shows in San Francisco, Las Vegas, Miami, and New York to name a few. You can pick up Elevate on itunes or you can win an autograph copy on discowhore.com. Rules for the contest are at the end of the interview. You can add him to your friends on MySapce or you can get info directly from his site at Morgan-Page.com.

[Ronnie Escobedo] Congratulations on the grammy nomination. Deadmau5 did a great job on the "The Longest Road", yet my favorite rendition by far is Lifelike's. How does it feel?

[Morgan Page] It's definitely an honor to see this track recognized by the Grammys. It's rare to see an underground dance track make it in there, so it's a huge thrill to have this happen. Deadmau5 did an amazing job with the mix. Many people don't realize that the original was not a club song - it was a hybrid of styles. The Lifelike mix was just a mashup I put together with "So Electric," but it gave the song a new lift by putting it in a major key.

[Ronnie Escobedo] Lissie's style is best described as Acoustic, Indie, and or Rock. Her vocals are essence of the remixes. Can you briefly talk about how you and Lissie came together for "The Longest Road". What was the concept behind the video?

[Morgan Page] Lissie was recommended to me by Nettwerk Music - they played me a bunch of vocalists, and she stood out from the pack. Too many dance vocalists just sound pretty - Lissie's voice has a edge to it, a bit of sawdust that blends nicely with my production. The concept behind the video was to capture an old school vibe like Depeche Mode did back in the day - with vintage film stock to get a campy feel out in the desert.

[Ronnie Escobedo] Lissie will be working on a new album soon any plans for future collaborations?

[Morgan Page] We have collaborated on three new original songs for the next album (due out in Summer 2009). She also recently started work on her solo album for Sony/BMG.

[Ronnie Escobedo] You followed up "The Longest Road" with "Call My Name". How was it working with Travis? What was the process like? Why did you choose Grant Smillie and Ivan Gough of TV RocK for the remix of "Call My Name"?

[Morgan Page] Tyler James was another singer recommended to me by the label, and I saw him play live at Hotel Cafe in Hollywood. His voice hit me immediately, and I thought he sounded a lot like Chris Martin of Coldplay, with the way he sings falsettos. We wrote the song in two afternoons, and endless weeks of slicing and dicing the vocals. I've been a big fan of TV Rock, so it was a nice pairing to finally get them to remix one of my songs.

[Ronnie Escobedo] How long had you been working on Elevate before releasing it? What was the motivating factor to releasing an album?

[Morgan Page] The idea was to show a range of styles - not a dance album, but a ton of different styles. It's a culmination of a few years of work - 8 remixes and 4 originals. Everything from blissed out downtempo to pumping electro-house. The next album will be focused squarely at the dancefloor, with emphasis placed on vocals and songwriting.

[Ronnie Escobedo] What is the biggest difference and most challenging when working on an album vs remixing?

[Morgan Page] Remixing is a much faster process - after doing 98 remixes, I can do a complete remix in three days - whereas an original will take months.

[Ronnie Escobedo] What are your weapons of choice when working in the studio?

[Morgan Page] Pro Tools LE, Avalon U5s and preamps, M-Audio Sputnik Mic, Studio Projects C1 mic.

[Ronnie Escobedo] Virtual synths or Hardware synths?

[Morgan Page] Always hardware. I love Dave Smith instruments and Moog products.

[Ronnie Escobedo] At the moment there is a division between the digital laptop jocks or Microwave DJs ; -) and CD DJs. It's kind of reminiscent to the vinyl and CDJ war several years ago. What are your feelings on the progression of technology regarding the art of DJing, i.e. Laptop vs CDJs? Which is your preference and why?

[Morgan Page] I used to DJ with Vinyl, then CDJs, and now Ableton Live and a Xone 3D. I still have CDJs in my custom DJ booth setup at home.
For me, there's no question - I'll never go back. Just being able to try out mixes on the plane and create edits on the fly is reason enough to DJ w/ a laptop. You can't do that with CDJs. For me I can deliver a more compelling performance with a laptop and a control surface. It's not that interesting to watch somebody fiddle with the pitch sliders on a CDJ.

I think the people who are really worried are DJs who feel they are being threatened by new technology - they don't want to be out of a job. This is a natural reaction when something comes out that makes thing easier and reduces the barrier to entry. There's more competition, but I say - bring it on.

[Ronnie Escobedo] Mac or Windows?

[Morgan Page] Mac

[Ronnie Escobedo] There is a rumor that you are working on a Madonna Remix? What can we expect and did you get the hookup with Yankee tickets?

[Morgan Page] It's done and available on the iTunes store. It's cool 'cause she is really hands-on with the remixes - she personally approves each one.
No word on tickets from A-Rod.

[Ronnie Escobedo] Dave Dresden has recently talked about a collaboration between the two you. Is this a new album in the works or just a collaboration to bang out some new tracks? Who else is involved in this project?

[Morgan Page] We are working on a few different projects, but we've done a song called "I've Had Friends" that'll be on my next Nettwerk album.

[Ronnie Escobedo] What can you tell us about your new album?

[Morgan Page] I'm keeping details under wraps right now, but let's just say that the Gabriel & Dresden fans will be especially excited about this release.

[Ronnie Escobedo] What other artist or DJ's are you collaborating with?

[Morgan Page] Right now just focused on my album and remixes.

[Ronnie Escobedo] Napster turned the the music industry upside down and Itunes redefined it. Beatport jumped in sometime after. As an electronic music artist and as a DJ maybe fiending for the next big track. What are your thoughts on music piracy or more so music sharing when related to electronic music?

[Morgan Page] It's a really tough issue. I think the illegal blogs do more harm than good, especially to first week sales of a track.
The music blogs should be posting embedded players or streaming versions of tracks ala Imeem.com
not providing actual files, unless they have direct permission.

[Ronnie Escobedo] As a DJ who are some of your favorite artist or DJ's?

[Morgan Page] I love the sound coming out of Europe and Australia. D.O.N.S., John Dahlback, Dirty South, Mark Knight.
These are all regulars in my sets.

[Ronnie Escobedo] What's on your ipod?

[Morgan Page] Everything from MGMT and Fleet Foxes, to Lykke Li, to an array of podcasts that I go running to.

[Ronnie Escobedo] What would you like to tell your fans?

[Morgan Page] Get ready! the new album is on the way and we will announce details in early 2009
also - make sure to sign up for the podcast - we'll be posting new episodes soon.

Terri B! Interview

Since Terri B!'s fan base is worldwide I have added various language translations.

Im Deutsch | Intervista In Italiano | In Nederlands | En Espanol | In English

Remember the "Big Fun" remake by D.O.N.S.? How about "Soul Heaven" from Henrik B? Who can't! Both of these tracks stayed in my playlist for an extended amount of time.

I first heard "Soul Heaven" on Ministry Of Sound Radio during the summer of 2007. It was either on Andy Norman's (Hed Kandi) or Jazzy M's (Oh Zone) radio show. I remember having goose bumps when first hearing it."Soul Heaven" ranks as 1 of my all time favorite tracks. It's a bit nostalgic for me and the vibe is reminiscent to the earlier days of House Music.
I recently had the opportunity to interview songstress Terri B!, the voice behind these massive tracks. I have to admit that until "Soul Heaven" I didn't really know very much about Terri B!. Information was sparse and the only other familiar track to me was "Big Fun".

You can hear "Big Fun" in the mix Download section. The mix name is discowhore. "Soul Heaven" can be heard on "Groovin Like A Muthafucka" or G.L.A.M. for short. Clicking on the mix names or the "Downloads" link in the Menu bar up above can also get you to these mixes.
I got a sneak peak at some on the up and coming releases from Terri B!. There are several tracks you should look out for. Some of my favs include "Running", "Attitude", ""Hold Me" the Craig Obey & Marco Demark Remix and the "Oh La La La" remixes. It's easy to identify a track sung by Terri B!. Terri B! differs from others with her powerful voice and emotional writing style. She has etched her name along those House Music legends we know and love.

You can find Terri B! at www.myspace.com/terribjerre and on http://www.terri-green.com/. Terri B! also has Twitter page at http://twitter.com/terrigreenproj

"Soul Heaven" can be purchased @ traxsource or beatport.
"Big Fun" can be purchased @ traxsource or beatport.

[Ronnie Escobedo] I understand there is an album in the works. Can you give us some insight into, The Terri Green Project . What can we expect? Who were some of the collaborators? Any remixes?

[Terri B!] The Terri Green Project is my alter ego. It is truly some of my most passionate work I've ever done, and of course challenging. It isn't solely dance or pop, so I had to really re-evaluate my writing style and melodies to compliment this adult contemporary set of tunes.

This album will be a visit to the past but not focused on it entirely. I covered Donna Summer’s, “On the Radio”, because as a writer and since childhood, I thought the lyrics were phenomenal and that it would be the great cover contribution I wanted to make. I think it will be a killer remix.

I co-wrote 9 of the 10 songs and they swing from classic dance pop, with orchestral movements to pumping danceable numbers that you immediately know you have to hear live. It was just a dream come true. I collaborated with some really talented people and the result is right on time.

[Ronnie Escobedo] Where did the inspiration come from for this album?

[Terri B!] My mom, as cliché as it sounds. I have cut so many successful house tunes, but she felt I never slowed it down and stopped wailing. She wanted me to do a record that showcased my warmer alto and that was not as quick in tempo. She got it.

_____________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________

[Ronnie Escobedo] What was the most challenging from the norm of working with producers and making single dance tracks VS. making an album?

[Terri B!] Working all over the planet. Jochen Mueller a talented engineer and producer was in Brisbane. Cindy Lauper's producer Johan Boback lives in Stockholm. Torsten Abrolat, who also executive produced in Hamburg, and Stephen Dorf , a phenomenal writer, collaborated with me in both Warsaw and LA. It was just a huge honnor to work with people I love and admire.

[Ronnie Escobedo] How did your career in House Music start? What was D.O.N.S. role during the beginning of your career and how did you guys connect?

[Terri B!] An accidental no.1 in Spain with 2 Eivissa, “Oh La La La” spread quickly to many countries and caught me off guard. I was teaching and working and not focused on music.

At the same time, a small studio job with Future Breeze, a trance group, gave me a Top 10 in Germany with “Keep the Fire Burning” and it just went on and on. Jerry Ropero and I cut “Get Down” as Avant Garde with a big mac one night and it became a huge club anthem. I really didn’t focus on it but I just kept having great success with releases. When “Nothing I Wont Do” a track done with Special D. became a hit in the Netherlands I then said okay now I should probably focus and start to create a brand for myself.

DONS, producer Oliver Goedicke was not only a good friend but we just accidentally cut “Big Fun”. No one believed in this track, until it was no.1 or 2, (can't remember) in the DDC in Germany. It was recently just rated one of the top covers by DEEJAY MAG. We are crazy happy that we trusted our instincts.

“Soul Heaven”, took me a year to cut with Henrick B, but it sparked international interest into who is Terri B!. Then came John Dahlback, Kurd Maverick (Rise), Raul Rincon (Sometimes) and my idol Roger Sanchez. Its just been crazy. I thank Jerry Ropero my friend for connecting me and forcing me to stand out and up. He is a great friend as is Oliver of DONS.

[Ronnie Escobedo] Most of your success has been in Germany and Europe. What would attribute your German/ European success to? What have been some of your challenges in the States?

[Terri B!] Well, I've had success in the States lately with Henrik B and “Soul Heaven”, before as Avant Garde, and even as 2 Eivissa which topped on the Billboard club charts. It just wasn’t my focus. I loved working with my friends in hip hop studios and being diverse in the States and then doing my European thing. I never got caught up on where I was…I'm just never home…ouch.

[Ronnie Escobedo] Your current tour schedule is pretty impressive. Will there be a tour to support the new album, The Terri Green Project?

[Terri B!] We are now organizing and conceptualizing the album for Terri Green but she can't get in the way of 4 major releases I have right now, DONS “You use to hold me”, ROGER Sanchez “Bang That Box”, Eric Smax “Must Be the Music”, and 1 of my favorites “Can't Slow Down”, Johan Dahlback, Diaz, and Young Rebel. It's really hectic. I write for other artist during free time and I have a pop rock artist coming out soon named Jennifer Stevens. She really rocks!

[Ronnie Escobedo] What would you change about the current EDM Scene or Industry? Why?

[Terri B!] Well if we start to get too glamorous, we lose the raw edge of deejaying and singing.
I think we have to keep a bit of the grass root feeling like OBAMA in the election. People have to know they can ask you to play a song or discuss trends openly. We gotta maintain a status that we are there for the fans and listeners.

Dance is on a great upward cycle again and I am excited to see where we take it. People are bored with other music styles so I think some things will happen naturally.

[Ronnie Escobedo] You work with an array of well named producers and or remixers in the EDM scene. Plus you travel extensively. What advice would you like to give to aspiring singer/songwriters?

[Terri B!] What goes up comes down. Just when you want to act like you are hugely successful and can't sign an autograph or answer a myspace request…just stop..and remember this is all temporary. Be cool and be easy.

[Ronnie Escobedo] What is one thing that people don't know about you that you would like them to know?

[Terri B!] I never thought I would earn money with my voice.

[Ronnie Escobedo] Has Ollie Goedicke told you what D.O.N.S stands for?

[Terri B!] Yes, Design ON Sound. It's so clever.

[Ronnie Escobedo] What is currently on your Ipod? Well of course besides the latest discowhore.com podacast.

[Terri B!] Faith hill, beats and tracks from deejays I need to work on, J-LO, Beyonce, Rihanna, Carpenters, Mica Paris, Etta James, Blow Monkeys, Level 42…it’s a complete mess.

[Ronnie Escobedo] Anything you would like to tell your fans?

[Terri B!] Thank all five of them. No just kidding. I am so proud to exist in this business. Honestly.

[Ronnie Escobedo] When and where can someone buy the new album?

[Terri B!] After the 1st of 2009 visit http://www.terri-green.com/ for the adult stuff and www.myspace.com/terribjerre is where anyone can just holler at me. Ollie is so so good at answering and reading his fan mail so I try to do it on long trips too…its so cool.

Time for a change

Obama wins and history is made. I never thought that within my lifetime I would ever see the racial barriers in the White House broken or a woman as president. This year we did one and came close to the other. I was certain that I had a better chance to see a colony on the moon before an African American president.

Bush has seen the lowest President approval ratings. Even Nixon's ratings during the Watergate scandal weren't as low. For some time now it has appeared as if money or the Corporation has been the the way of the rule. People have demanded change and Obama-Biden have been chosen to bring it. During this economic and energy crisis plus the endless war, I say bring it.

See you at the next Garden Party. ;)

Peace Love and House Music

Bad Habits Die Hard

From Defected.com:

Many people think ATFC is a group, and considering his success you’d be forgiven for thinking so. ATFC is one man, Aydin (The Funky Chile), with three UK top forty hits, a successful independent label Onephatdeeva, a full on DJ international DJ schedule and a reputation for consistently delivering quality remixes. ATFC is a DJ that has been prolific since the early days of house music and unlike many others from that era, has consistently produced incredible dance records and has stayed firmly on top. From his early chart toppers 'Bad Habit', 'Sleep talk' and 'In and Out of My life', he has experienced a renaissance with his main room sound. He has consistently produced innovative and outstanding tracks and remixes including 'Praise to the JB's, his latest single which has already been a Beatport No.1 success.

His recent remix of Dubfire's 'Roadkill' was described as 'verging on genius' by Pete Tong while 'Ya Killin Me' was sought out by all the major players in the house world, eventually finding a home at Mark Knight's Toolroom imprint. It's with Defected however that the majority of his new material is being showcased. ''It's really good to be working with the team again.'' he says. ''I'd got to a point where I wanted to make records for other labels again and to have someone else shout about my music for a change. There's not many better labels than Defected to do that.'' It's fair to say that he's in now way resting on his laurels. ''Defected are keeping me really very busy. I have singles coming with singers including, Mone, Yasmeen and Rae. This week I'm remixing Chris Lakes next single and will be starting the promotion for Bad Habit pretty soon no doubt.'' One of ATFC's most recogniseable (and successful) tracks 'Bad Habit' has been given a fresh set of remixes by the man himself and is already causing quite a stir. Check out the new mixes Released next week, it's guaranteed to set a few people to reminisce about the classic, while demonstrating exaclty why ATFC is so prolific to this day.

Truth, lies and ticker tape

It was quite a historic day as President Bush signed the $700 billion bailout plan. As aid comes to those on Wall Street what will happen for those of us that live on Main St. For example and originally reported by CNN in Eviction Suicide Attempt, Addie Polk, 90, of Akron, Ohio, became a symbol of the nation's home mortgage crisis when she was hospitalized after shooting herself at least twice in the upper body Wednesday afternoon before being evicted .

With the current presidency seat up for grabs in few. Do you think your vote will make a difference? Will it be the hanging chads that will determine our new President. Will your vote count? What are your thoughts on this?

DJ AM and Travis Barker Critically Injured

As reported by Ean Golden at DJTechTools.com

This weekend, a damn good dj and a friend of Dj TechTools was badly injured in a terrible accident. Adam Goldstein, or Dj AM, is one of the top djs on the American club circuit and has been doing an innovative show with blink 182 drummer, Travis Barker, for several years now. Adam and Travis were leaving a show back east when their Jet overran the runway and crashed into a nearby highway. More details and a video on this terrible accident can be found on a CNN article here. Both men are currently in critical condition and its unclear how they will fare. We want to spread the word and send out all of our best wishes for a full and speedy recovery. Please keep Adam and Travis in your thoughts over the coming week.

Summertime - Wiley + Video

Original Posting at DanceNova.com Dance Music News Charts and Reviews

Rapper, producer and MC legend – Wiley is officially taking over the weather with the release of the brand new single, ‘Summertime’, out October 13th via Asylum Records. Calling for an extension to this year’s summer, the east London native declares, “I’ve had enough of moaning about how rubbish our summer is. With this single, it’s all about brightening up our autumn”.

Featuring Mark Ronson and Pharrell protégé Kenna, the addictive, carefree anthem celebrates the sunshine season over Daft Punk’s Aerodynamic. Produced by Jake Gosling and DJ Sam Young, it has been a highlight of this year’s festival circuit, from crowds in Ibiza to wowing audiences on the Jay Z tour with Mark Ronson. ‘Summertime’, is already heating up the airwaves at Radio 1Xtra, Kiss and Choice FM whilst the energetic video is enjoying massive support from MTV Base, Hits, The Box and Kiss TV.

‘Summertime’, follows hot on the heels of the silver certified No.2 smash hit, ‘Wearing My Rolex’. A massive statement of intent, it signaled Wiley’s move beyond grime (the underground street sound and scene he has guided since its inception from the dying embers of blingy UK garage in the late 1990’s/early 2000’s) and has sold more than 200,000 copies to date.

“I can make any music I want and people can judge it. You can’t just be limited to one type of sound”, says Wiley reflecting on the direction of his forthcoming material. Working with such artists as Mark Ronson, Prodigy and Hot Chip, he says, “What I’ve learned is the more open minded you are, the more open-minded people accept you”.

Whether creating genre-defining classics like ‘Wearing My Rolex’ or bringing the Rolex Sweep dance craze to the world’s attention, Wiley continues to step to the plate. From his early jungle days to date, it is simply impossible to overstate the importance that Wiley has had on UK urban music. This enigmatic MC and prolific producer has more than earned the title of Godfather of Grime and is arguably the most influential musician from Grime’s spiritual home of Bow E3.

DJ Mag's Top 100 - Have you voted for your favorite DJ

Well I just submitted my top 5. The clock is counting down and who will you vote for. While I didn't get out very much I did listen over the Internet, downloaded podcasts and live recordings.

I was extremely selective with my list and it took me a week to decide.

One thing to remember is that this list isn't for the best DJ but for your favorite DJ. This becomes important because the higher the DJ's place on the list the more they can charge.

[/important]

This mix is a little late. It's from August while I was in DC. Better late than never. :-)

Episode 2 is filled with great tracks. Some of my favs include Tommy Trash's remix of "Believe Again", "Open Your Heart" by Dirty South and Axwell, the Sultan and Ned Shepard remix of "Crash and Burn" and the Stretch and Vern edit of Thom Yorke's "The Eraser". As far as the best track on this mix, it's a tie between Sam La More's Remix of "Honey" by Lovers Electric and TV Rock's remix of "Call My Name" by Morgan Page featuring Tyler James.

You can watch video for album version of "Honey" by Lovers Electric below.

This song is SOOOOO 1996... back when lesbianism was chic

The title says it all. You can read Clayton Barrel's take on it here. But if you haven't figured out yet - I'm talking about Katy Hudson's, ahh sorry I mean Katy Perry's "I kissed a girl" and "Ur so gay" songs from the CD titled, “One of the Boys”. For the longest time I thought I was the only one annoyed by her stereotypical and cliché lyrics. She seems to be stirring up controversy in the gay communtiy as well as the religious. Clayton summarizes my feelings on this well,
"This song is geared toward the straight male, frat-boy world and is NOT anywhere close to a message of tolerance and inclusion like many seem to think."

How much does your favorite artist make

CDM recently posted an article regarding Last.fm's new Artist Royalty Program. Its an interesting read that touches on royalties in Radio, over the WWW and Indie's VS The Man. While this might be a step in the right direction for Indie's and or unsigned artists. The artist still needs to look elsewhere for a great source of revenue. At $0.0005 a play I would need 50,000 plays to get half a thank of gas to drive to my next gig. ;)

discowhore.com - Episode 001 :: June 2008 Promo Podcast

By popular demand. Here is the 1st podcast on discowhore.com mixed by yours truly Ronnie Escobedo.

I had to cut out about 30 minutes from the beginning and some from the end due to some problems I've been experiencing with my lappy and my current DVS of choice. My app was clipping tracks and causing some annoying clicks. :(

There is some controversy surrounding track # 3, Hard To Bang. Originally I received it as Hard to Bang (Axwell's Bootleg Mix) - Tocadisco. Ax claims it's not his creation. You can read here.

Enjoy.

Dave Dresden Interview :: Post Gabriel & Dresden Split

Dave Dresden played at Eden After Hours to a sold out crowd last week. I'm not sure what the club capacity is but it was grinding room only. Dresden and the successful weekly events are held at Club Le Blanc in San Antonio, Texas. On the weekends Le Blanc transforms into Eden After Hours and the events are brought to you in part by Party Grooves Events and Platinum Rise Entertainment. The night opened up with Joey Munson, DJ DK, and Dave Molina. Dresden came on about 1:30a and played through the early morning. His set was a little over 4 hours and quite exceptional and since I prefer vocal tunes I extremely enjoyed the final 2 hours of the morning.

As most of you may know, Dave Dresden was one part of the duo Gabriel&Dresden. They have recently parted ways to concentrate on their solo careers. The news came on the heels of their most recent award for Best American DJ at the 2008 IDMA ceremony at WMC in Miami.

Dave Dresden Interview

[Ronnie Escobedo] Your list of accomplishments are quite extensive and for 7 years you have simply been known as Gabriel and Dresden. What challenges are you facing since the split and how has the transition been?

[Dave Dresden] Well let's see the most challenging thing is accepting that you're one person on the stage instead of two. Your perceived value when you're a duo is that you're just that, a duo. You're two people and there's a lot more involved than when you're just a single person on stage. It just feels like less that you're giving the fans even though you're really giving them the same thing, it's just from one person's view. Also working alone and or with other people means that you have to find a different creative way. The one you got used to while working in a duo doesn't necessarily apply to your own productions or while working with other people. So it's like the comfort zone that I had working with Josh is out the door.

[RE] Some of your most recent collaborations have included Chris Cox and Trent Cantrelle. Who are you currently working with or plan to in the near future?

[Dave Dresden] One of the things that I really pride myself in is my ability to recognize talent. I really have the profile that I still work with a host of named producers and creative super collaborators. I really kind of want to layoff that idea right now cause I want to maybe nurture some new talent and also people whom I believe are excellent artists that haven't really broken through, or just people who I think I vibe with well. That's not a guarantee when working with a super star cause then there are two huge egos in the room. When you work with somebody who's lesser known you can get more accomplished. I have chosen to work with people that I really know well since the split. Trent Cantrelle is one of them and Chris Cox is the other and I have also worked with John Debo as well. These are people that I have known for a number of years.

[RE] When you're discovering artists what is it that you look for?

[Dave Dresden] Attention to detail is the most important thing. What do they do that is different or better than the average thing you get, especially since most music comes via email now. Also how well their sound will apply to what I'm doing or what I want to accomplish as an artist.

I will be setting up my own label. I may bring back Organized Nature because that was sort of my baby. I am a pretty big A&R source and recognize a lot of talent. I did a lot of the work as remixes on Gabriel and Dresden songs and also finding original songs from artists to put out. I feel like I could of exercised that a lot more, it's just I was overwhelmed with the work Josh and I had to do. We were constantly, constantly working. When you're working on music you can't do anything else.

[RE] You mentioned starting your own label. Is this happening soon?

[Dave Dresden] I'm waiting for all the legal things to pass regarding G&D's split. It's like a divorce you're separating what's mine, what's yours, whats ours, and who's gonna get what. I'm waiting for this to clear and see if I want to bring Organized Nature back or start a label from scratch. One of the key points to keeping Organized Nature is that it already has an identity.

[RE] Could you please describe your solo production style?

[Dave Dresden] Songs with meaning and or tracks that take you there.

[RE] At the moment what is your favorite piece of gear?

[Dave Dresden] The Moog Voyager. It was put out in 2005 and I think it was the last piece that Bob Moog made before he past away. It's a sexy, sexy, sexy keyboard. A lot of producers I respect use it. I think it has single handedly become Deadmau5's weapon of choice. The circuit's in it produce such amazing sounds, all the oscillators and things you can change about the sound - it's second to none. Then there's the Dave Prophet 08! I'm salivating and saving my money for that. I've seen Morgan Page use it and I'm really impressed with it.

[RE] This summer seems to be pretty busy for you and you seem to be in a different city every week. Is production on hold while you tour?

[Dave Dresden] No, I actually find my biggest source of inspiration is right after the gig. I like going back to the hotel room and getting a few ideas down. It's like capturing the moment. I've always looked at music production as an audio diary of my life and I always like to save those moments. I find something very sacred about the gig and after the gig as a means for creativity.

[RE] Since you travel and play often is there any particular venue or place you prefer when playing?

[Dave Dresden] It all really depends on the promoter. The promoter brings in the crowd and if the promoter has a good reputation then he'll bring in a good crowd. I really don't want to name names. There are certain cities that do well. One of my favorite places to play is New York. Even though the crowd maybe construed to be jaded because it's New York there are so many people that get it there. The percentage of people that are feeling the music is just so much higher. The other place that I really like to play is Rise in Boston. Josh and I actually used to pack the place. We were a big name with 300 super fans in a room playing till 7 in the morning, [it] was really a great vibe.

[RE] How does it feel to be Dave Dresden?

[Dave Dresden] I still feel like the guy that I always was. I sometimes forget who I am. When I go to a club DJ's will recognize who I am and ask for an autograph or pictures taken and I'm like, oh yeah I'm that guy. People get nervous or apprehensive about me because of what I have accomplished. It's a weird feeling. On the flip side of that it gives me a lot of confidence to accomplish things because of what I have already accomplished. It's kind of a neat feeling being me. The only bad thing about being me is that it's really hard to maintain a relationship because of my schedule and dedication to my work. Also when you do have a girlfriend it's difficult for them to handle the amount of girls that are around you at the end of a gig. It can be detrimental.

[RE] When you're not rocking the discotheque or jamming in the studio what type of music or artists are you enjoying? What's on your ipod?

[Dave Dresden] Wow! Lot's of things. Lately I've been listening to the Kings of Leon, MGMT, Vampire Weekend, um and uhh..I can't even think of..oh yeah the Fleet Foxes.

[RE] Outside of music what do you enjoy doing for fun?

[Dave Dresden] (Laughing) Driving around and listening to music. I get so many ideas from driving around. When I drive around and listen to music I get tons of song ideas, like I can take this from that and make this. Everything that I do pretty much some how goes back to my music career. I like to listen to stand up comedy and then I make songs that sample stand up comedy routines.

[RE] Who's your favorite comedian?

[Dave Dresden] Doug Stanhope and well Bill Hicks. He was a Texan. (He mentions Bill Hicks being a Texan because his recent show and interview were in Texas)

[RE] Anything you would like to say or want your fans to know?

[Dave Dresden] No I think I've pretty much told everything.
